Calm Transmissions is an audio visual collaborative project, founded by duo Tee Vaden and Darren Will. Darren, a composer, multi-instrumentalist & producer, and visual artist, and Tee a film/video director, writer, photographer & visual artist, who also creates music, began Calm as an experimental outlet while processing through 2020 in Los Angeles.

"It all started with Darren creating our YouTube channel to house these compositions and visuals we were making...during such a turbulent time we felt called to make something that encouraged peace or mindfulness, or at least contemplation.  We needed the outlet ourselves, but we wanted to put something kind out into the world as well.

Calm as a project has always been a sort of sketchpad, D's musing and magic on the composition side, our shared love of nature and the desire to showcase and archive as much of it as possible, and my love of visual capture, manipulation, and experimentation. Our meditation kaleidoscopes, for example, started because I wanted to see if I could make this idea in my head happen outside of it; the puzzle of figuring out how was just as fun as watching them back over the years.

We are so grateful that this project has continued to expand both sonically, allowing D to experiment in his own right and really find this incredible voice as an artist, for me to come back to music in a way I never thought I would; it's opened up a space to collaborate with other musicians we admire and put that work out for others to share, and given us a new way to communicate both with each other and the world. It's been a profoundly humbling and exciting journey thus far.

On the visual side I've had to opportunity to continue my experiments with photography, animation, these sigil designs I started as a meditation exercise and can't get enough of, and other mediums of digital and traditional art; many of the outcomes of these experiments are featured on the pieces within this shop."
